The Triple S Method

The Keys to better English

English is a hard language to learn . It is an even harder language to score well in the IELTS exams. We will lead You through a very easy but very powerful way to achieve the score You need. We will also lead You through the way to use this outside the exam. This is critically important. The exam is not the important part, it is the ability to use the language in every situation confidently that is. That is what we focus on and your success in doing thisi our priority.

Speak sowly and Deliberately

It is really important to focus on speaking clearly and deliberately. This way the examiner can score You well as he can clearly understand, follow and have time to think about what You are saying.  Speaking slowly allows You to  demonstrate your skills.

Use Simple & Familiar Words

Keep it simple with words You know well how to sue. The most important thing here is to use simple, easy words You are familiar with. Do not try to sound sophisticatesd. You complex words and proper vocabulary but always pay safe and keep it simple.

Use Short Specific Sentences

Short mini statements are the way to go. Focus on specifics of what You want to say and keep it short. Do not create long sentences that go on forever, starting at one point anf finishing three points later. Short and sweet, easy grammar, good vocabulary and You are home free.

Speaking Slowly and Deliberately

This is an issue that almost all IELTS students misunderstand. Speaking quickly and trying to emulate the way native speakers may sound, does not mean You are speaking good English. In fact, it usually means You are trying to cover up your lack of confidence and nervousness.

Never try to copy or emulate native speakers. They speak terrible English!

A key to using English, or any language, is to develop your own unique personal style. This makes it your English the way You want to speak it. As long as it is correctly structured and the grammar is suitable, your personal style will allow You to relax,be natural and not over think everything.

Now this does not mean You can say anything You like any way You want. You still have to demonstrate your ability to speak well and with the proper forms and conventions.

However, it is crucial that You speak at your natural speed and that You pronounce all your words correctly/clearly and that You add your own emotional connection to what You are saying.

Keep the listener interested. Draw them into to what You are saying. Make it something they want to hear and want to hear what You are going to say next.

Speak Slowly and deliberately.

Triple S Speka Slowly
Triple S use simple words

Use Simple and Familiar words.

Now that You have slowed down and are speaking clearly, it is important that You demonstrate your vocabulary. This does not mean using sopiticate and complex words that You are not 100% familiar with and know how to use.

Display a variety of vocabulary and use the right words You are comfortable with.  Tjis is your English and your personal style, however, the examiner wants to know how well You understand the language and use of vocabulary.

Don’t rush this. Don’t over think. Don’t try to sound intelligent or sophisticated or clever or funny or anything that is not your natural way of describing something to You friends in a cafe.

You are having a conversation not a vocabulary spaghetti. Keep it simple and clear, familiar and with a good use of your already excellent vocabulary.

Display your confidence with the language and your ability to be natural.

Most important is breathe. Do not try to run a long sentence with one breathe. Breathe and keep it simple.

Use Short Sentences and be specific.

Triple S coming together. You are speaking slowly and clearly, Using words and language You are comfortable with, so now it is time to wrap it up.

The shorter your sentences are, the easier the grammar will be. It also means that You can be specific about the point You are focusing on. Keep it short and sweet.

However, do not be too short and balance with together longer sentences joined together.with “because”, “and”, “therefore” etc. where appropriate.

Demostrate your natural personal style and make your conversation easy for the examiner and listens to follow understand and pay attention to. Keep it interesting by specific points in a short format.

You will notice all the sentences I wan writing are short and sweet.

They are specific and focused, and stay easy to follow and you can easily remember what I started the sentence about and let me lead You to the time I went shopping for a belt and ended up buying onions at the farmers market.

This last sentence is a demonstration of what not to do. keep it short and sweet, good vocabulary, slow and clear.

Some final Advice

I have developed  Triple S Method thorough working with most than 7,000 classes with hundreds of students. I apply it to all types of conversations, not just IELTS exams.

It has, however, proven to to be highly successful when students follow this method when sitting the exam. I have had numerous students who have been trying to get their score from 6 or 6.5 to 7 or 7.5 and fail time after time. This is stressful, frustrating and very expensive.

We will practice this method all the way through all our classes. It will be introduced quietly so as not to distract You with”something else to remember” but I will be ensuring You get the picture very quickly and learn how to use this method to your advantage.

Just out of interest, of the dozens of students who tried using the triple S method, 99% have taken their scores up one full point or more.

Last But not Least.

You are going to be nervous. You are going to be distracted. You are putting yourself under a lot of pressure and You really need to get that high score.

Stop!

Get to the test centre early. Go to a cafe and order some tea. Not coffee or soda – Tea. Pick up your phone and call- yes call- your mother, father, husband, GF/BF, partner, BFF or anyone You are close to and tell them You are going in. Talk for 5-10 minutes and they will help You forget the pressure and nerves. You need to settle down before You go in and this works.
