Possibly one of the most overlooked but critical aspects of attending an international University is Academic Writing. This more than any other aspect of attending a university needs focused attention.

In many Universities a significant portion of the final grade of any submission is given to Presentation. This means you must understand how to write and present your work in Academic language, with referencing to other academic and public domain writing and in comprehensive English. This takes a great deal of practice and focused training.

Another aspect of this is the ability to read and include information in your submissions that uses other peoples writing but in a way that is not copied or plagiarised. You may use the ideas to support yours, or to argue agains your points and you can reference who said it and where, but you must not simply copy and paste the exact words. This will be considered as Plagiarism and can lead to serious consciences. We will work through this and learn about Turnitin - a standard check in program and how to prepare for this aspect of your studies.

This is series of single classes and some assignment type exercises. You should discuss the design of these classes when we talk.

Your tutor will work with you to define what is giving you the most difficulty and developing ways to overcome this. You will work systematically to refine and develop your skills and your tutor will constantly update the way your classes progress.

Items to develop may be:

Introduction to Academic writing
• Format & Presentation
• Language use and Vocabulary
• Abstract/Introduction
• Outline & Process
• Referencing & Bibliography
• Proof Reading
• Assignment practice

These are just some of the possibilities, but the end results and your expectations will be tailored to your needs.

Before your first or any class please be prepared with a list of things you may wish to develop or simply let your tutor know what you expect.

Don’t be shy, these are your classes designed for you personally and not any pre-formatted classes that simply cover the surface. Our mission is to help you be a confident speaker.
